I see a lot of posts about Isreali occupation of Gaza as if it is Apartheid in South Africa. Fact is that Isreal has no desire or intention to control this area or the Palestinian people. Isreal would like nothing more than for there to be a peaceful Palestinian nation. This as evidenced by every time peace negotiations have occurred. The problem is that the Palestinians have always been represented by terrorist organizations who dont want peace but the destruction of the Jewish Nation. In the 1990s during negotiations with Arafat, Isreal conceded to every demand except ones that would destroy Isreal. After getting these concessions Arafat banked them and then started terror attacks on Isreal. The Palestinians have been victimized by the PLO and Hamas who have been more than willing to impose the suffering of their people rather than choosing peace. I was in Israel in 1992 during which time the jews in Isreal were protesting for Palestinian rights. At that time the Palestinians had no greater allies than the people of Isreal. When Arafat started blowing up busses this changed very quickly as the people of Israel lost friends and family in these heinous attacks. More recently, after Arafat died Abas was ready to bury the hatchet and make peace with Israel. Had this happened the Palestinians would have have been well on their way to having their own prosperous country. Unfortunately Hamas wrestled control away and pushed their agenda of the destruction of Isreal. You cant negotiate when your opponent only seeks your destruction. You cant grant statehood to your mortal enemies when they would use that to start a military campaign for your annihilation. May peace finally rein for all who are there. May the suffering end soon for both sides.
