I see this type of compassion from Shelter/kennel workers everyday - TopicsExpress

I see this type of compassion from Shelter/kennel workers everyday and have for the last 5 years but it goes unnoticed. The general public--including some abhorrent rescue groups-- treat our shelter workers as through they are devil-spawn; ill-minded agents of death that would rather put a dog down then work to save its life. They are branded as undertakers because they have to complete the unfortunate cycle that is part of their job description. They have to tend to the wreckage that is left in our wake, created by our collective irresponsibility, ignorance and lack of compassion. What you dont see is how wonderful these people are: from my old friend Joellen Downs, to Julie Dunlap Sugg, to Jose Joel Elicier, @Erin Easter, to Melissa, Jules Johnson, Lisa, the Nicks, and so on and so on. People who would DO ANYTHING to help me get a dog out of there! I could name 25 hard working compassionate people that MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAILY, in most cases more than I ever will, yet they are given very little appreciation and plenty of criticism and mistreatment from the public. If I had a nickel for every time Ive seen a ACO or kennel worker verbally abused by the public or even rescue, Id have enough money to build our new facility! Whats more impressive is that these warriors absorb all this punishment while simultaneously carrying out a job that most of you wouldnt last a week in. They are picking up mountains of poop and pee, blood and puss; breaking up fights, risking their own safety while mentally absorbing enough anguish and heart ache for 10 lifetimes-- enough to give Sergeant Slaughter PTSD! Shelter workers and staff dont have a month or even week of appreciation but I would encourage all of you to take a minute to voice your appreciation for these tireless, strong and truly helpful human beings! If you see one, shake their hand, give em a hug, shoot, buy em flowers or pint of Whiskey! At the very least be empathetic, put yourself in their shoes for a minute. To Kern Countys Shelter Staff and Kennel workers-- KEEP ON TRUDGING, WE NEED YOU AND APPRECIATE YOU!
