I sent the following letter to the editor in response to the Krpan article two weeks ago in the Spectator Re Twin Lake is still a beautiful beach: federal government should start paying some of the flood tab Dear Editor: The picture that Ms Krpan presents is incomplete and perplexing. Perhaps knowing that she was on the Board of Directors of MASC during the flood of 2011 and, As a ‘friend’ of the government of Manitoba, she has a particular point of view that differs from those who were devastated by the flood. Her attempt to deflect from the central issue that the flood was caused by the mismanagement of Lake Manitoba is clumsy at best. The fact that the line-up for appeals is a long one and that a lawsuit against the government has been filed belies her claim that ‘everyone has been fairly compensated’ and that ‘permanent homes have been very well compensated’. To target her venom aiming at our community is mean-spirited and not in keeping with the predominant hopeful mood of residents. Local contractors and trades people been central to the reconstruction. Suggesting that those suffering at the hand of government and victims to a flood are somehow selfish and blameful is low – even for her. We can’t allow such a naysayer to diminish the progress underway at beautiful Lake Manitoba and Twin Lakes Beach. Jack King St Laurent, MB
