I set up this group to bring people who were feeling angry and frustrated about the Fraser Town incident together. Its grown to around 8000 overnight. I am not an activist, I have no political ambitions, I am just a concerned Bangalorean, husband, father, son, brother. But now there are now calls on this timeline for protests, aggression, ugly criticism of the police and the law, tasteless cartoons and posts suggesting how the rapists should be raped - none of which I subscribe to. I believe as a citizen it is our responsibility to keep the system accountable by asking questions and raising our voices through the right channels. Not by behaving like the creatures we want to keep off the roads. This group is about supporting the girl and the police system that has vowed to bring her justice. She has turned to the system for help. Not once but repeatedly. Support her and her decision. Future victims must know there is an establishment they can turn to when in trouble. You and I cant be that system. There are enough laws to protect us. The only thing we should do is to constantly remind the authorities that were waiting for them to deliver justice in due course, without prejudice. I am withdrawing from the group as an admin. I meant this to be an openly shared group but FBs architecture presents me as the face of it. In spite of refusing any ownership tag, the media presents me as its owner which I am not. One article even calls this a protest group. So for the last time, this is not a protest group. Or rather it was not meant to be one. Win Bangalore Back is a call for you to be more informed, more aware of your rights as a citizen, more knowledgeable about who to talk to, who to complain to, who to constantly keep accountable. With 8000 people on board, theres no way I can (or even want to) control what is being said and shared on this group. And since I dont subscribe to a lot of things being said on it now, the only logical step I have is to let go of this ownership tag.
