I spent a summer like evening watching one the most beautiful ballet performances I have ever seen. "One Thousand and One Nights" was rewritten through a dance. Angelin Preljocaj was able to transport the sensuality of the tale on stage without harming art. All dancers danced on equal terms. It was the first time that I have seen dancers looking like normal human beings. No dancer was too sculptured nor so frighteningly thin. The dancers were like subjects of a painting moving out of the canvas and having a life of their own. The movement though at times appeared to be curtailed were alway fluid. The music was beautiful and very interesting to listen to. I really thought that the music was like an immigrant whose life acquired a foreign teint along the way without losing its own.
