I stopped at Starbucks for a coffee after my morning run. When I got to the drive up window to pay I was told the car in front of me paid for my drink. For a moment I was delighted... then I noticed the barista looking at me expectantly. I peered into my review mirror. Behind me was a nicely groomed woman in a newer SUV - in fact all the cars in line were newer and all the occupants well feed and clean. Starbucks is definitely a middle class luxury so I decided to give the money I would have spent to the next homeless person I saw and I broke the chain. Bad juju may be coming my way - but I think I did the right thing. I urge you - dont play the pay it forward game that is so popular at places like Starbucks and instead use those few dollars to help people or animals truly in need.
