I stopped thinking in terms of my skin color a while ago. I - TopicsExpress

I stopped thinking in terms of my skin color a while ago. I challenge my daughter to try and describe her friends and classmates by other criteria than color. If you can only see your world through a psychology of race, you are trapped. Afterall, race is an illusion. We are human. Thats it. Does race matter? Sure, as much as you let it. There are surely instances in which we are confronted by race: tax forms, health insurance, a random traffic stop - its not a small matter, I know, and we obviously still have have a long way to go. The manner in which we respond to situations that involve race speak exponentially as to what type of humans we are, and to what kind of future we deserve. And to my fellow Americans whose ancestors came here undocumented and in chains, lets stop crippling ourselves with quips such as When they enslaved us... or 400 years of oppression... No one enslaved you. No one is able to put us in chains but ourselves and with that type of thinking, we become our own slavemaster. Theres no one present or alive that we can now point a finger of blame at. Do-for-Self knowledge is the most effective weapon against ignorance. No one owes me anything but respect and still, even that is earned. The only thing that can murder this culture of dependency and victimization is empowerment and people become empowered through knowledge. Its a new day. Think a different way and to get what youve never got, do what youve never done. Thats how you make ancestors proud.
