I swear I was the only one at the grocery store this morning - TopicsExpress

I swear I was the only one at the grocery store this morning without a cell phone glued to my head. Why do people feel the need to talk on the phone through their entire shopping experience? It baffles me. The first encounter was an older couple. The wife was on the cell phone pushing the cart while the husband grabbed things off the shelves. She apparently couldnt multi task - you know, see AND talk on the phone at the same, time because after she sideswiped the third person in the aisle her husband grabbed the cart (muttering profanities all the while) and stormed off. I ran into them multiple times in the store and she was still on her phone... and her husband was still muttering profanities. The second encounter was a mom with a toddler in one of those racecar shopping carts. She was really engrossed in her conversation while she stood on the other end of the cart (not near the child). She was talking to someone about their mutual frenemy, Tonya, who clearly had wronged her in some heinous way. She was going to show her though - Tonya was NOT receiving an invitation to the ladies lunch next weekend. Meanwhile, as mom is plotting her revenge against Tonya, the toddler had pulled around half a dozen bags of marshmallows off the shelf and opened them all. Most went on the floor but Im pretty sure he also consumed enough to have a pretty good sugar high by the time they got to the checkout. Im pretty sure mom never noticed either. And speaking of the checkout... the woman two people in front of me at the checkout was busy on her phone too while she had her groceries rung up. The cashier finished the order and announced the total. The woman actually gave her the hold on a sec hand gesture and then proceeded to finish her lengthy conversation....with four people waiting in line behind her. Normally there are a few people on their phones but today was over the top. I was actually starting to get a kick out of listening in on their conversations. Maybe next time Ill start chiming in with advice. I mean, I really could have helped with the plot against Tonya. Id start by hiding her cell phone...
