I tell college-bound students that the single most important thing they can do is to take notes. Note taking is a process of integrating knowledge in real time. Its the process that is more important than the product, the notes themselves. Now research is giving some insight into that process. Note taking on a computer is not as effective as writing. On a side note, the fact that many schools no longer teach cursive writing means that we could possibly see a decline in cognitive ability in students down the road.
