I think I figured out the problem with Roland. In case you havent heard theyve announced a kind of new version of the classic TR-808 drum machine. But instead of listening to what everyone very clearly wants, they decided to make it a boring digital virtual analog. Remember those weak ass new Juno synths with the D-beam laser bullshit? Yah, theyre gonna tarnish the TR-808 name just like they did Juno. But my point is... I think I figured it out. Its not that they dont get what musicians and producers want today, its that they never did. Think about it, the TR-303 and TR-606 were designed to be bassline and rhythm accompaniment for people making acoustic guitar folk music in their basement. It was just by chance that they happened to make an instrument that completely redefined electronic music. Those boxes absolutely sucked at what they were designed for. Clearly, later somewhere along the line they employed some people who werent idiots and made some great instruments. But it seems as though theyve left and now its back to a company that is completely out of touch with what music makers actually want. Maybe they should make another box designed for folk music. Ok, nerd rant done.
