I think Im going to stop being so generous with my eBay customers. - TopicsExpress

I think Im going to stop being so generous with my eBay customers. Now, in fairness, Ive had a good couple of months. And I have been paid in good time on MOST of the items that have sold. But Ive also had a far higher number of outright non-payers than ever before. While some of these were very minimal action figures, others were not. And that bothers me for this reason -- I could have sold them to someone that wouldve paid me in a timely fashion. Typically, I allow ten days for a person to pay for an item before I raise hell. I think thats going to get scaled WAAAAYYY back. Now, I had one individual who won a couple of items, and promised to pay by a certain date. This person regularly kept in touch with me, maintained their promise to pay, and indeed, I just received the payment for those items, as promised. I have no problem allowing a little extra time provided the person keeps in touch, as this person did. On the other hand, I had one individual who won a couple of items, gave me a reasonable explanation (NOT a cheap excuse), and promised to pay within a certain period of time. Havent heard from them since. Their deadline is today. I sent them a second invoice yesterday. Needless to say, I am not optimistic. It is not a small amount of money, either, and if I hadnt had an otherwise decent couple of months, Id be a lot more ticked off than I already am. This has nothing to do with the difference between auctions and Buy It Now. I have stated in the past why I dont like to do Buy It Now listings. I dont like having to pay the listing fees over and over again for stuff that just sits there and doesnt sell. Also, I have items that sometimes sell for more than I initially listed them before. In that respect, a Buy It Now is just cheating myself. This has everything to do with what, to me, is a simply, basic practice -- IF YOU CANT AFFORD TO PAY FOR SOMETHING, DONT BID ON IT!!!! And Ill admit, I am at a complete loss as to why anyone WOULD bid on something if they KNOW they cant pay for it and have no intention of doing so. Really, seriously -- WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!? WHY would someone do this? Do they think its funny? Do they think eBay is a game? Are they just that catastrophically stupid? I just plain dont get it. And I hope this sort of thing isnt a trend. More deadbeats I do not need. That said, I really have very little to complain about regarding the past couple of months, and I am very thankful for the paid sales I have had on both eBay and Amazon.
