I think one thing our country really lacks today is people sticking together on basic ethical principle. That was a given among our founding fathers and revolutionary soldiers. They fought and died on behalf of the citizens at large. Today however, it seems we lack such statesmen and men of honor. Instead, our new politicians have so blurred the lines between right and wrong, our citizens now think every public issue has this broad gray area...an area whereby any of us can find comfortable justification for almost any position that might suit our personal self interests at that particular moment. We are all outraged when politicians appear to be be bought and paid for...yet we dont seem to realize we citizens often fall into that same trap. Im appalled when I hear of candidates offering personal favors to voters in an effort to buy their support. Im just the opposite. I dont owe any favors and I certainly dont expect any favors. Its not about me individually and its not about you individually. Its about improving the quality of life for our entire society. Voting for self-interest above the common good is the beginning of the demise of our great republic form of government. It all starts and ends at home. If we cant vote past our own front door, wed best just stay at home...for our self-serving vote will surely come back to bite us.
