I think that sometimes the biggest threat to the independence of the Judiciary is not an overly intrusive government but a heavily intrusive public that thinks justice should be subject to the whims of their opinions. Take this Kazinda example. Every one throwing stones at the courts of law for the judgement, many of them without having taken the bother to read the judgement and the reasoning upon which the judge based to pass the sentence. Whilst we are justified and it is our right to criticize the justice system, let not ignorance be the driver of our criticisms. And let us not forget that the judges are the experts in the law. They have amassed a wealth of experience through thorough study and practice of the law. So, it is simply disrespectful of some of us to simply wake up with a few (sometimes even exaggerated/twisted) facts published in a newspaper here and a tabloid there and expect to order judges on how they should decide the cases. Judges are not obligated to pass judgements according to our expectations but according to the law and the evidence presented in the courts of law. So let us not act like we are too disappointed when the judgements have not suited our expectations. Were they even supposed to in the first place? Plus we should also remember that when we keep throwing stones at the lords in the house we will have no moral justification to criticize a member of the Cabinet who is doing the same. Let us save our judiciary some slack and understand that as an institution they deserve their independence if they are to serve us as we expect them to
