I think we all are familiar with a relay race. Generally speaking there are four runners in the race with each one having the responsibility of passing a baton to the runner in front of him/her. If at anytime one runner fails to pass the baton properly the flow of the race will slow down and or cease. This thought can be applied to the Christian journey as well. By this I mean that it is the responsibility of one generation to pass the baton of faith to the next generation. One of the saddest commentaries recorded in the Scriptures is found in Judges 2:10 and says, That whole generation was also gathered to their ancestors. After then another generation rose up who did not know the LORD or the works He had done for Israel. From this verse we see that one generation who had known God personally and powerfully failed in passing the baton of faith to the next generation which resulted in the future generation not knowing God. The same responsibility lies with us today. If we fail to pass the baton of faith to the next generation, then there is a risk of them not knowing God personally or the works of God powerfully. You have heard it said: Children are the church of tomorrow. I disagree with this statement because if we dont impact them for God now, the church will not have them tomorrow. My prayer today is: God help us to pass the baton of faith successfully to the next generation to come.
