I thought I would share a days worth of fun from the field as captured on my @MiamiSup Twitter feed on the first day of school @MDCPS; enjoy: 5:00 AM School bus driver comment: I wake up at 4 AM and l look this beautiful for my kids. Of course as sleepy as they are, they may not notice. As a special Olympics athlete, Shawn tells me he hopes for nice teachers and pretty girls in his classes. And good cafeteria food. Question to HS student on school bus: what can we do to improve cafeteria food? Hire my mom to cook it, he says. Love it. Elementary school parent comment: why is it that a two month vacation w kids at home seems eternally longer than nine months of school? How do you say no to a hug from a kindergarten student w sticky breakfast hands? You dont! You wear the stained shirt proudly. Elementary wisdom: I say to 4th grader how pretty her hair looks and she replies you never know whos going to be at school Meet Alec. I ask him about how great his school year is going to be; he answers that depends on who shows up Sleepy preK students comment about the first day of school: are you going to be here tomorrow? Do I have to come? Kid approaches me at Miami Gardens elementary and says welcome to our school, as he turns to a friend and whispers hes the weatherman. Hialeah High student reaction to first day: I havent seen my girlfriend since the last day of school. God bless education. 5th grade boy wisdom: how long do I have to wait until Im taller than the girls again? They grew fast in the summer. I heard this bit of wisdom from a preK student last year as well when asked about the first day of school: I wasnt done sleeping. New student at Twin Lakes El on Heat players presence at the school on the first day: mom, this is a better school, the Heat works here. ITech 9th grade wisdom: why did you choose this school? Because I want to be a tech CEO like Bill Gates but w lots more creativity. Third grade wisdom as I walk into a classroom: I was hoping youd stop by today, I am wearing my best dress #EverydayMagic Kindergarten complaint: Mister, youre the boss? Can you talk to the teacher? We had nap time last year but not this year? I think theres a lot to be said for preK wisdom. After being up since 4 AM, a rolled out mat and a little nap sound about right. 4:00 PM Now, only 170 magical days of school ahead!
