I thought I would share this picture of an old log house in Newton - TopicsExpress

I thought I would share this picture of an old log house in Newton County. It has been passed down through same family that first settled there and was built in 1840. It sets back a quarter mile in the woods from the main road. It has remained the same except for a metal roof and brick chimney that was added in place of a rock chimney or maybe a mud and stick chimney. It has two openings on each side of the fireplace that once had a hinged doors to access firewood stacked outside on wooden pegs. The front door is original and has hand carved hinges made of wood. I thought it to be unique since it has virtually remained the same now for almost 175 years and still in solid condition.
