I totally agree!! Thanks for this status update Lisiate T. Wolfgramm- There is assumption that gangs and gang violence is a way of life for Pacific Islanders, and that it originated in our island homes. Im here to check you. Prior to the deportation of Pacific Island gang members from the USA, there were NO gangs in the islands. NONE. Gang banging, as we know it, is as American as apple pie and baseball. It is now a festering problem overseas as it is here, as American-raised deportees have imported a product that is largely a creation of our inner cites in response to institutionalized inequality (housing/education/health/employment), and galvanized by policies created by our own government to keep people in their place. I dont need lectures on how people should accept responsibilities for their actions - that is obvious and understood. I am trying to bring awareness to other factors that contribute to the gang problem that we refuse to acknowledge. I am interested in the pathology of institutionalized inequality and how it works against us, no matter how hard we try to get ahead. This is the discussion that is NOT happening at gang conferences or in public because it goes against the interests of those in power. However, we dont need to wait for them, we need to look within ourselves, our cultural values that have sustained us and create our own dialogues and solutions -- and this needs to be done with new generation of community leadership because the current ones have proved themselves to be damn USELESS!! #nothereforyourbullshit #checkyoselfbeforeyouwreckyoself #firethegatekeepers
