I totally agree with this. I am a one income single parent with zero support from anyone other than my job. When I moved into my 800 sq ft apartment in 2009 I paid $750. Today, I pay $1375. My heat in the unit is barely there (aka building pays for heat), I pay electricity - but the building generously offered to supply me with heaters...that I have to pay for when plugged in because, again, I pay for electricity. Im waiting for my next rental increase that will come in a nice neat notice under my door Dec.1/14 as it has for the last 5 years. Why dont I move? Well, when it comes time, I go out and look and the places are way more than advertised. Highest bidder mean anything?? I cant afford to stay, I cant afford to move. Im screwed and I am beginning to think that being homeless is more and more possible due to this. It is a scary thought...and fyi, I work in a great career and make good money..but the more things increase the more the salary stays the same. Completely screwed again and Im nervous to say the least.
