I understand and accept that I am heading into that point in my life where I am considered an old fart. Its true that me and my friends are no longer lean and strong. We have hair in strange places and wrinkles in new places. Sometimes the worst part about working in the back yard is the thought of having to walk all the way to the back yard ! Scratches we ignored before now bleed like a hyper active blood donor jumping rope. Pulled muscles and bruises are now comparable to amputation and major surgery in our books. Reading glasses are a must have ! Yet my age group still rest firmly in control. Why ? Because this new generation of men were raised to be fair minded at all cost, to allow even the most unqualified to help set policy and society guidelines. And we werent raised that way. We were raised to understand that sometimes life just isnt fair, sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, and sometimes the best we can hope for is to hold our own. And most importantly we understood that if you believed in something , including yourself, or you believed in justice, that you had little choice to snatch up the nearest branch or bat and wade into to bad waters despite the odds. I am so thankful for the young fellows I know who still arent afraid to scrape their hands knees or knuckles, and who , knowing the battle is already lost , wade in anyway, because thats what you do ! God bless the rowdy ones. They are this countrys true hope.
