I usually like to joke and live life smiling and bringing joy to whomever is brave enough to come around me. I just want to mention something that happened this morning. I woke up this morning…, woke up feeling very emotional yet so blessed. Don’t understand why I felt the way I did, had nobody gone or passed away; I had no reason for having the emotions I had. I thought and wondered what could it have been? My family is all good and safe in their beds. I did everything I always do including falling and waking up to Marc Anthony’s sweet voice. The only thing I saw that had been different was seeing Xiomara (William Vallentins wife) randomly populated and stated I shared 3 friends with Xiomara. Which is wrong, I then thought we share so many friends. It’s really too bad it does not reflect that, I thought. I then looked at her family and wondered how is it that we are randomly selected to have our will tested and our lives turned upside down. . What makes us vulnerable to the selection of life? I opted to check on her Xcio Power/ Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. I noticed she’s almost half way towards her goal with 35 days left. I then realized her goal is 2,500 it’s a number, how lucky we are not to have a doctor determined our life expansion. That our goals can be met this year or maybe next year, five years from now we have no limits. William invited me to be a part of something big for Xiomara, her mother and Mimi’s Mother. I did not hesitate; I knew straight away I wanted to be a part of this; this is not just for now as Beatrice Rosa-Swerbilov knows and can testify. I did not hesitate when her son Justin raised his goal for walking against breast cancer. I’m a single parent with different and many needs if you will. Small sacrifices goes a long way, the joy of being there for a friend is priceless. For the first time in 45 years I want to share my birthday October 19, walking and living for a good cause. I can celebrate Oct 19 my birthday every day, whenever unless some divine intervention should interfere. I want to celebrate someone else’s fight for life would you, could you? Reconsider giving for a good cause? Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Hispanic/Latina women. In 2010, estimated incidence is 90.2 per 100,000 Hispanic/Latina women and estimated mortality is 15.5 per 100,000 women. Hispanic/Latina women have lower breast cancer incidence and mortality rates compared to non-Hispanic/Latina White women. However, they are less likely to have regular screening mammograms and to get prompt follow-up for an abnormal mammogram. These differences may explain why they are more likely to be diagnosed at later stages of breast cancer. Many factors play a role in lower rates of screening mammograms among Hispanic/Latina women including ignorance to what’s lurking and working against us. This is not for me in fact it’s not even for Xiomara, all she’s doing is paving the way for a cure that could help the future our daughters, nieces , grand-daughter. If you have not given take the time to give $10, $15, $20, whatever it is, you are not being judged or excluded from having a helping hand in the search for a cure.
