I usually shy away from these kinds of posts.... so if youre not in the mood for a #Ferguson reference keep on scrolling... Jim Crow Laws (1876-1965)... If you are, or have a parent/grandparent over the age of 49, like I do with my 77yr old grandmother... they are most likely familiar with these (not too long ago) nonsense laws... right? Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the situation(s) in #Ferguson it troubles me when anything of today reminds my Granny of life when she and her siblings were forced to drink from separate dirty water fountains, charged double price for the movies and forced to enter through the back and up to the non-maintained balcony, when anyone could walk up to them in a restaurant and shove their dinner plates to the floor and keep walking... or even when at her very first job someone standing 2 feet away in her checkout line turns to his friend and says Oh, I had to do a double take because I almost thought she was one of us... (Referencing her extremely light completion) Those personal stories are wow... moments when youre a kid, but when you have your own kids and those stories accompany heartache... your heart also, aches... But what really bothers me, what really has me in constant prayer is the upbringing-teachings of my son, Judah... Son, Judah... listen to me... I know God will be with you everywhere you go, Hes promised me that... but I also pray that He blesses you with wit and common sense that accompanies our parental and moral teachings. I pray you will always feel led to make the best decisions whether you are alone or with your friends... but son, I cannot stress enough that if you ever find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time........ your dignity, your self respect, your education, your respectable status.... means Nothing, do you hear me?! If you are asked, no told, to stop, put your hands up, lay on the ground, spread em to be randomly searched.... you do it! No questions asked... not a single remark... if you dare to call on a name... let it be Jesus, and make it home to your family... Its that simple, right... #ADaySpentWithMyGranny
