I usually stay out of these but this is something that does annoy me. Climate change is happening however we are unclear on if its specifically from man-made greenhouse gases or not. On the assumption that it is greenhouse gases causing problems however, my question is: what does everyone want to give up? Many of the most shrill proponents of this are the same as the ones that have: 1. Bought newly manufactured car/smartphone/electronics/clothing 2. Are using heavy electricity with their electric cars/phones/entertainment (all the shiny internet goodies like facebook consume a lot of power at the data centers) 3. Are indirectly adding to transportation impact with their amazon purchases/non-economy car/non-local foods/organic foods. Reference BTW: epa.gov/climatechange/ghgemissions/global.html Lets do something folks! Personally Ive only been willing to make sacrifices on personal transportation and food and consumer goods. Im a locavore as much as I can be. And I have economy cars that are 10+ years old and are used (89 civic SI runs 40mpg cuz theres no AC and is a death trap) plus I make less than I could by by working 10 minutes away from home. My personal electronics and consumer goods tend to be refurb, last gen or freecycled (I cheat a little on my lights though, LEDs are a huge diff in the monthly bill). Lastly I have a 1200 sqft house. Going beyond that, sorry folks, gotta be selfish about some things. Live small everyone!
