I visited Brocante Market yesterday, been dying to make it there - TopicsExpress

I visited Brocante Market yesterday, been dying to make it there for months! Brocante was delightful. And is open today if you are in the St. Pete area. Out of towners, Brocante makes for a nice day trip, there is a really fun brewery across the street called Three Sisters with free shuffleboard, darts, giant Jengas, etc. Youll be parched after visiting Brocante so head over for the beer. Back to Brocante. There are many impressive things about Brocante. First, there are quite a few vendors there who have worked the Atomic show. Their displays were as amazing as they are at the Atomic shows. Actually every display was amazing, well planned, clean, easy to view, eclectic, fun and truly AFFORDABLE. This show is priced to sell. They restock throughout the day as piece sell and then do another major restock Saturday night for todays show. Someone I was talking to asked me if I thought a store like this could work in Sarasota. Which would be so delightful. Of course, a Brocante could work in Sarasota. However, what is happening at Brocante is very special and smart. Brocante is only open for two days each month, very smart. This gives vendors time to rebuild stock, work on other things and this gives people like me time to save some $$ to come back and hunt for something cool. While the store is owned by a couple (one who has beautiful mermaid hair), the store has a very Co-op feeling in that the vendors are very vested in the store. There was a vibe there that was very apparent upon walking into the building. Customer service is tops, people are there to help you, but no pushy sales b.s. I can tell that everyone felt valued there, enjoyed working there. Seriously, true joy on the faces of vendors...and that is on top of the exhausting work they do. Being a picker and vendor is incredibly physical. One of the vendors, Jess from Braden River Antiques had been up since 3 AM because he wanted to be the first to get to an estate sale yesterday morning, then head up to Brocante, continue working, continuing until around 10:30 PM to add more inventory, wake up and do it all over again on Sunday. This stuff is heavy, lots of furniture, lots of pieces to display pieces on. I have the utmost respect for humans who can do all this and continue to be social, civilized and smiling. This December Brocante runs the same weekend as Atomic (the first weekend), usually Atomic is the second weekend. And Im bummed out because I know their December exhibit is going to be stellar. FYI, Brocante is pronounced Bro-caunt, not Bro-can-tee (as I was saying it) or Bro-chan-tey (like RuPaul). More on Atomic vendors, check out Kerry Topjuns magnificent art melange hanging in the back room, its one of her finest yet. Even the wall it hangs on is perfect for the art work! DeeDee Derenne is selling the coolest vintage / antique pieces of cars, I wanted them all. Lynda Kiansten of Trailer Park and Treasure is next to DeeDee, she has such fun displays. I was excited to see so many Atomic peeps there and see them having some fun, their work ethic is amazing. I hope youll visit the show!
