I voted no on the Democrats motion to recommit (return to committee) #HR4899. The motion instructs the Committee on Natural Resources to amend the bill to prevent the five largest oil companies from receiving new drilling leases unless they agree to forgo tax deductions to which they are legally entitled. I have concerns about some of the tax deductions, credits, and subsidies that oil companies (and alternative energy companies) receive, but the government shouldnt threaten a select few companies merely for following existing law. Regardless, this is a partisan procedural motion, not an actual amendment. The motion failed 177-235.
