I want to encourage all fourth grade students to apply to the Santa Rosa Accelerated Charter School (SRACS). They have new enrollment priorities that will allow students from throughout Santa Rosa an equal chance at attending this extremely popular school. Applications are accepted only from November 1 through November 29, 2013. Families whose children attend SRACS invariably feel that they have access to an extraordinary educational opportunity. Students lucky enough to be one of the 128 fifth or sixth graders engage in differentiated instruction as outlined by the California GATE standards; SRACS achieves some of the highest test scores in the county yet the school does not “teach to the test”. I have often heard Lead English and Social Studies teacher, Anna Williams, explain the school’s approach this way, Differentiated instruction is like a ladder in the classroom, everyone should be encouraged to climb as high as they can go no matter where they start.” When the school began ten years ago with just two classrooms students came from beyond Santa Rosa, including the towns of Windsor and Petaluma. Siblings of those students still come through the school. Interested families should attend the 2014-2015 School Year Enrollment Information Event on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. in the Rincon Valley Middle School café. Application packets for the 2014-2015 school year will be available for pick up starting October 24 at the charter school office located at 4650 Badger Road, Santa Rosa. Applications must be received by 4:00 p.m. on November 29. Packets submitted after November 29 will be placed on the wait list in the order received. Please visit the SRACS web site at sracs.org.
