I want to post a complex issue for prayerful consideration of my Pastoral Collegues and brothers and sisters in Christ. It is simplistic and sometimes counter productive , even wishful thinking, to tell a survivor to go and forgive or be nice to ones abusive parents or parents complicit in the abuse. The reason being that as much as the survivor may desire ofr have sought many activations of mediation, reconciliation, the fact is there are obsticles of gullt, shame and denial to navigate. To forgive what is being denied only bounces back in the survivors face. A survivor needs to go to ones parents or institution when he or she is ready and prepared and supported. A debrief would be esential.
