I want to publicly thank God for the joy and privilege of having blessed relationships with people whose color and culture are different than mine. To the black child who was my first best friend back in our Bronx housing project - Malcolm Reid. Thank you. To Armando Mendoza, Rhonda Kirschner, the de Jesus sisters, and all our friends on Randall Avenue. Thank you. To my SUNY art school buddy George Spencer. Thank you. To Rose Austin at Clark Howell-Techwood in Atlanta, who served all with the same love and respect. When she passed, they found her sitting up in bed with her Bible laid open on her chest. Thank you, Rose. To my brothers and sisters at Golden Gate who welcomed me as a member of the Black Seminarians Fellowship. Thank you. To my professor, pastor, spiritual director, and friend, Dr. Leroy Gainey and his beautiful family. Thank you. To my multicultural family at First Baptist Vacaville. Thank you. To my Mendez family in Guam and Arizona, especially my nietas hermosas. Thank you. To the African, African American, Asian, Hispanic, and Pacific Islander pastors and church leaders I work with every day. Thank you. Thank you that we have and will show the world a better way. The way of love and reconciliation. The way of peace and service for the best interests of the other. The way of blessing and not bullets. The way where everyone can breathe. The way of the soul and the Spirit. The Way of Christ.
