I want to share a special experience with you... My beautiful daughter Eliah Jade turned 11 today. ( People ask me about where her name comes from- I thought of it one day before she was born as I was sitting in my car. To me, Eliah, means daughter of God. We gave her the middle name of Jade to represent her valuable nature and Jade is a stone that takes a lot of hard work to refine and carve. We wanted her to always remember that good things come from hard work. ) Anyways, a few weeks ago after she saw some paintings I was working on she said she wanted to paint something and asked if we could do one together. So we decided that wed do a painting that represented her. We sketched it out together, bought the supplies and started working on it during my weekends with the kids. She helped me paint the first parts and picked out the fabric she wanted me to use as a frame. As her birthday got closer, the only thing she asked for was that I finish our painting. I finally finished late last night. What I love about it is all the symbols she chose. Each of the colors of the trees represents a different part of her. Red=her passion and courage Green=her desire to grow Purple= her royalty as a daughter of god Blue= her purity and goodness Orange= her playful and fun nature And then I had her choose 10 words on her own that represented who she truly is... You cant see it well in the picture, but I embossed these into the designs in the metal. The words she chose were: noble, caring, delightful, quick, bright, capable, flexible, strong, beautiful, and persistent. As a parent my eyes get a little teary whenever I think of how lucky I am to be her dad. She teaches me so much. Ill never forget that day 11 years ago today, when I sat holding her mothers hand, in the cozy sacred warmth of our home as Eliah came into this world. She was, and continues to be, one of the greatest gifts of my life. I am honored that she calls me Dad. I know in truth she is Gods daughter, and he has just entrusted her with me for a little while.
