I want to start a church. Seriously. We would call it something like the church of common sense or the church of nature. Our "God" is "The Balance of Nature" or "the Force" and can be embraced by Atheism, Agnosticism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and all other religions. Our prophets are Bill Nye, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Carl Sagan. Prophets and doctrines of other religions may not be brought into our faith but one can definitely belong to our church as well as another. It is our religious conviction that Science is the "word of God" and speaking against what can be proven is a violation of our religious rights. It is our belief that "the Force" speaks to all of us constantly in the air we breath and the water we drink; and the way we "thank God" or "honor the Force" is by taking care of these gifts which can disappear very easily. The worst sin is a sin against the environment and we call the sinners to task. We do not accept the Bible or Koran or any other written document as our guiding source. We get tax-free status, a national platform and will probably have more members, i.e. more political clout, than the evangelists or other splinter groups preaching so loudly against what we know to be true. The Force has spoken to me and to you: sunlight, sky, trees, birds: ways more obvious than Jesus has been said to whisper to a select few! How can we get this church started?
