I want to take the time to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. - TopicsExpress

I want to take the time to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. A couple years ago I could take the time to respond to each one. I will do my best to do it this year also. It will take longer to do so. So many people mock the idea of Facebook friends making sure to use quotes around the phrase. I can say almost every person who wished me happy birthday is a real, personal family member or friend with whom I have shared experiences. Those shared experiences came rushing back to me with each birthday wish. It also reminded me of some of my favorite quotes about friendship: “What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies.” ― Aristotle Friends show their love in times of trouble, not in happiness. - Euripides “I don’t need a friend who changes when I change and who nods when I nod; my shadow does that much better” - Plutarch A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow. – William Shakespeare True friends stab you in the front. - Oscar Wilde “Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. Its not something you learn in school. But if you havent learned the meaning of friendship, you really havent learned anything.” ― Muhammad Ali Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend. - Martin Luther King, Jr. “I would rather walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light.” ― Helen Keller Sweet is the memory of distant friends! Like the mellow rays of the departing sun, it falls tenderly, yet sadly, on the heart. – Washington Irving These from A.A. Milne in Winnie the Pooh: “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” “Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. Pooh? he whispered. Yes, Piglet? Nothing, said Piglet, taking Poohs hand. I just wanted to be sure of you.” “Well be Friends Forever, wont we, Pooh? asked Piglet. Even longer, Pooh answered.” Both of these from C.S. Lewis in The Four Loves: Friendship is born at that moment when one man says to another: What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . . “Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival.” And my favorite quote about friendship? It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them. - Ralph Waldo Emerson Thank you to all my friends for letting me be stupid with you.
