I wanted to give some of you a little insight as to why being told Im better than Tiesto means something to me, even though Im not better than him by any stretch of the imagination. DJ Tiesto, and later simply Tiesto, was a staple in my musical taste when it came to electronic music. He was the benchmark. He was the one that broke through the glass ceiling, and put DJs on the same level as rock stars. The merits of those contributions can be discussed, but regardless, the man has had a serious impact on the EDM world for a very, very long time. I still love playing his tracks, both in my mixes and just when Im sitting around. So, this morning, I got told by the after party venue owner that he thought I was a better DJ than Tiesto. This is something Ive always wanted. Not to think that Im actually better than Tiesto (Im not), but Ive always wanted someone to compare me to him and consider me better. Someone that didnt know me personally, and could only judge this based on my mix. So, while in reality Im sure the venue owner was just being polite, its nice to be compared nonetheless.
