I wanted to share with you all three needs that have come up in the last two days. 1.soup As part of our Gods word our hands that we we all part of this past week, we raised 15 1#s of food for the Shalom Center. While I was there I was talking to Barb, who runs the food donation center, and she shared with me that the center serves over 1000 families each week. While there are always needs, their greatest need at this time is cans of soup. And by greatest need I mean there were less then 50 cans on the shelf at the time of my visit. 2. Diapers Did you know that homeless raite across the country fell 5.7 % between 2008 and 2012 , in Wisconsin it rose over 20%. Halo in Racine, works with the homeless and are in need of diapers. Often times the littlest ones are forgotten when thinking about the homeless. All sizes are needed as well as wipes. 3. Blankets ELCA outreach in Kenosha serves a wide range of people with many needs. With this winter forecasted to long and cold, now it the time to look through our closets and pull out those blankets that have been sitting in boxes for years not being used. Someone this winter may very well depend on that blanket to survive. As we grow as a Church, reaching-connecting-growing-serving, I ask that you would prayerfully be thinking about ways to reach out, connect with someone, grow a relationship, and serve those around us that are overlooked and forgotten. This is not a guilt trip or me begging for donations. What it is, is a window into ways God calls us to act and put others first. As we kick off Youth Groups tomorrow, know that our youth have been asking for ways to give back to their community. So this ministry year that is what we as a group will be doing. I have the best Job in the world. I get to hang out with some awesome youth, talk about Jesus and try to figure out this thing we call faith, and be challenged by our youth in my reaching-connecting-growing-serving.
