I was an early Letterman adopter, tuning into his shortlived morning show back in 1980, when I was working mids and able to catch it (the ability for the average person to record tv shows was not common back then). The guy had an edge, although it was obvious that his style was not suited to daytime tv.... I also remember when Lori and I used to timeshift his late late show, which allowed Letterman the kind of freedom his comedy needs.... However, once he went on earlier to compete directly with Jay Leno, Letterman definitely lost his edge, and I quickly tuned out. Cest la tv. Letterman had a great run. Congrats to him.
