I was assigned the letter M by Rusty White and to pick 10 films that Ive liked or seen that start with that letter. In a twist on the game, Im picking 5 as good and 5 as absolutely horrible. And theres one that is so bad it is actually good. The Good: 1. The Manchurian Candidate (Laurence Harvey, Frank Sinatra edition-- the suggestion that the right wing is a tool of the left, and maybe vice-versa, not as ridiculous today as when released) 2. My Cousin Vinny (Perhaps the best lawyer movie ever) 3. The Maltese Falcon ( I like the premise that beautiful women lie) 4. Melancholia (Insane people handle stress better than the sane?) 5. Mary Poppins (What can I say? My parents took me out of kindergarten to see it.) The Bad: 1. Made In Manhattan (Ralph Fiennes plays an excellent Nazi or Nazi spy-- he should not be kissing Jennifer Lopez.) 2. Mr. Deeds (Adam Sandler script that should have been stolen by Winona Rider) 3. Miss Congeniality 2 (Worst chick-flick sequel ever. Ever.) 4. Made of Honor (Im sorry, was I supposed to enjoy a plot in which everyone wants to kiss or become intimate with Patrick Dempsey?) All Time Bad. So Bad It Is Good. 1. Mandingo. (Movie has virtually every racial stereotype on display, including some I hadnt considered. Dialogue includes gems like bed wench, white lady knocked up, and powerful flesh. And it was made 40 years before Kim Kardashian and Kanye West!)
