I was at the Summit campus before work this morning talking with teachers from both schools. Here is some information that was discussed. 1. Teachers will be on the lines 5 am to 5 pm today. They will be in shifts starting next week 5am to 11am and 11am to 5pm. They said that school arrival and pick up times are important times to have a big presence, but any time is welcome. Also the Huffmaster subs are meeting at Summit Campus by the yurts every morning, and then being transported to the different schools. Teachers are waving to students and being respectful, and only yelling at the vans. White vans will be dropping off and picking up the subs at each school. 2. Teachers need transportation and places to use the restroom when they are on the picket line. This is applicable to all school locations. If you are able to offer transportation or a location for teachers to use the restroom please let the headquarters know or stop by the lines to tell them. If anyone knows if there are businesses or churches nearby that would be willing to open their doors that would be very helpful. Some possibilities that need to be contacted near the Summit Campus are the Farmers Market on the corner of Broad and Summit, the Lions Club on Summit Rd., several gas stations on Summit Rd and Main St. and any of the churches on Summit too. The teachers would really appreciate this. If you are able to help with this situation at any of the protest locations, please let someone at headquarters know. 3. Children at the high school are reporting that they are not allowed to call home unless they are sick. This is one of my worst fears, that my children whose only ability to communicate with me is through the school, would be refused that option. Please talk about this with your kids if you are sending them to school. 4. It was discussed (and we need confirmation on the facts in this) that the schools must maintain >80% attendance to count as a school day. IF the district cannot maintain 80% attendance it is possible that it would affect their federal funding. I don’t want the district to suffer in the long run (like permanently losing funding) but I know hitting them in their pocketbooks is going to impact the board members on this. Can anyone please confirm or expand on the topic of % attendance and how that is going to affect whether the schools can remain open with low attendance, or if the days will count towards the school year total, or if it will impact federal funding? 5. If having
