I was brought up to form my views on the basis of what I saw - TopicsExpress

I was brought up to form my views on the basis of what I saw around me, what I read, what I learn from friends and colleagues – in other words to study reality rather than theory. In the past few days, I was discussing with parents and friends on the street, over the phone, and on various occasions. Yes, I deeply felt some of our peoples pride and hatred, but would never accept some of their surface views, trying to push them until they got to their core, their unconscious beliefs and prejudices. Through listening to their voices, I was surprised by some of their reasons of protesting, but also enlightened by their deep belief in having a leader willing to put their voices at the heart of government. It was a big lesson to me, as an ordinary man, but I equally wish it could be to our political leaders, left and right, who are hiding behind the scene. While I fully respect the choices made by the people, it does not mean I agree to some of their misunderstanding and misconception in the entire constitutional reform. There are lots of misperception out there. That is why I think our leaders need to genuinely change people’s perceptions, they need to change the fundamentals – communication is about substance. I feel very sorry no leaders from the administration have been on the street so far; I feel equally sorry our leaders have allowed themselves to communicate empty messages again and again… Change is a complete project that meets the mood, and seizes the mood. After 9.28, I think we shall all awake. It has already been a victory to the protesters and many others. It is time for our boys and girls to RETURN HOME; and it is time for serious negotiation which involves compromise from both sides. We are entering an era which represents renewal, change, a fresh start, or failing which, a long lasting deadlock and blind alley.
