I was challanged by Karissa Kilgore to reveal 5 little known things. If you like this, l may challange you. 1. I dont have a belly button. I like to say I was hatched, but the real story in I had surgery for an umbellical hernia in 1966. 2. I seriously considered entering the convent when I was a high school senior, much to the chagrin of my non-catholic father. Obviously, I had a change of heart. My friends dubbed me Sr. Cary Mary Never Enter. 3. I took taekwando in my 40s. 4. In high school I belonged to CORE, Congress of Racial Equality. 5. The bravest or dumbest, depending on the way you look at it, thing I ever did was in Thailand when I was 50. I took my daughter to Thailand from Japan where I was spending a year teaching. We were taking a bus from the airport to catch a ferry to the island of Ko Samui. When we were in the middle of NOWHERE the bus started smoking. After a few minutes, my auto-panic kicked in. I demanded the driver stop the bus and unload our luggage. The other passengers, all German, got off as well. The bus took off. So there we were a bunch of foreigners who spoke not a word of Thai, in th middle of Nowhere. What could we do?. We hitchhiked. Rachael and I and a few others flagged down a pickup truck. What with passengers and luggage there were no seats left, so Rach and I stood on the back and hung on to the tail gate the whole way. Obviously we made it to the ferry. It leaked. :)
