I was completing and interview for the paper and as I was writing it I felt like I needed to share it for you all because you have been such an inspiration for me. So many people coming together to help me out has made me realize how awesome human beings can truly be. So if you have a minute to spare here it is. Ok, well to start off I have been a minden native pretty much all my 27 years. I have lived in the Minden and the Dubberly area with family in both. I graduated from minden high in 2006 and then from vo tech with a degree in instrumentation in 2009. I moved around a lot with my mom and never really had a stable home I guess you could say, my parents split when i was around 3 or 4. I presume that lifestyle makes you a little tougher, a little rough around the edges. Thats probably why I started boxing at around 12 years old, it was a good vent for me. Then I found my love of martial arts which most kids in my situation do. They find something that pushes them and stimulates them. In a way fighting represented my life. Fighting in the ring and fighting to survive in the world, because lets face it, life is hard for everyone at some point. Everyone has there battles. The rich, the poor, white or black it doesnt matter everyone has a battle. Some more than others, but no less important. Then the TV show caged come about and gave my friends and I an opportunity of a lifetime. It really was a great experience that I will remember forever. After caged life went back to normal just like any other person work, family, and just living this beautiful thing called life. My son Jaxon is 4 now and that blue eyed, blonde hair boy is who I exist for, he is my rock. You know we all take being on this earth for granted at one time or another and I am for sure guilty of that myself. November 8th was just another day for me. Me, my son, dad, and brother all loaded up the dirt bikes to go hit a friends track like we always do. A jump Ive hit a hundred times. Its funny, just when you think you have life all figured out and you are on top of the world, it drops you right on your head. Metaphorically speaking but figuratively for me. I went over my handle bars and landed on my helmet fracturing my 6th and 7th vertebrae and kinking my spinal cord causing me to be paralyzed from the stomach down. Ive found myself pondering why did this happen to me? Im only 27, I have a kid to raise and millions of things left to do in this world. But, its not over. Im am so blessed beyond measure. I can still watch my little boy grow into a man. I have friends and family that love me. I have people that I dont even know that text and call me to give me encouragement. Life is still awesome. Great things come out of even the worse situations, so maybe I can give someone encouragement, maybe I can give someone that little sliver of hope they need to keep pushing, to keep fighting. Ill be headed to Tauro rehabilitation in New Orleans, which is a specialist in spinal cord injuries in a few days. Just another adventure for me to begin just like you all have your own adventures. If I could tell you one thing, just one piece of advice, it would be to never give up. After all, its not over till is over. -Wes
