I was down in the basement switching laundry, when I hear a sudden scream of utter terror. I came bounding upstairs screaming above the screams, Whaaaat??? WHAT HAPPENED??!! All I hear in response is Allies panicked, Mom, Help her!!! By the time I get to the bedroom, I have visions of lacerations and broken and exposed bones. I come into the room and Abbie is kneeling on her stool and Allie is holding up her leg, tenderly but clumsily. I see the source of disturbance only after repeatedly shouting, What??? WHAT??!! Abbie stepped on an earring. No flesh-eating bacteria had emerged from her skin, her appendages were in proper alignment. A tiny butterfly stuck in her foot. It was barely inserted. I told her I was just going to look and I yanked it swiftly and expertly from her foot. Both girls were infuriated at my insensitive handling of the case, however the crisis is over. Abbie is on the couch drinking a juice after her harrowing experience and Allie has been given a brand new scenario for playing ER. The life of a drama queens mother is never dull!
