I was grateful for John Keys support for marriage equality. Without it I doubt that we would have secured the law reform. But its really disturbing to now hear reports that suggest he has been telling conservative audiences what they want to hear - or at least couching his remarks in a way that allows them to infer what they want to hear. (And by conservative I dont mean Pasifika - most of the Pasifika community actually supported marriage equality, but this happened to be an audience of religious conservatives). Both New Zealanders who supported marriage equality and those who opposed it deserve to know where Mr Key now stands.
