I was happy that I was able to address some questions at the debate Tuesday evening pertaining to certain rumors being made concerning what I would do if elected. I can but speculate as to why some would spread these rumors or, more importantly, why some would believe them without first asking me. For those of you who were not able to attend the debate, I would like to post my responses. The first is the rumor that, if I am elected, I will fire everyone in the D.A.’s office. This is NOT TRUE. I will a give a fair evaluation to the applications and performance records of all members of the current staff, to include assistant D.A.’s, regardless of their loyalties in this campaign. I certainly want anyone, who may be of value to the office, to remain on the job. I will, of course, be making significant changes as to how the office will be run, as this is the main reason for running for this office. I will be instituting policies and procedures that have been lacking in this office for many years. These policies and procedures should make the jobs of all personnel easier and create a professional and pleasant work environment. The changes will also restore respect for, and confidence in, the district attorney’s office from the citizens we serve, other law enforcement agencies, judges, and even the defense attorneys. I believe that those, working alongside me, will actually enjoy and be proud to work in the environment I plan to deliver. The second rumor is that, if I am elected, I will do something the Child Support Service from the D.A.’s office. This is NOT TRUE, and is an insult to me personally, as a both a father and grandfather. I want to protect all citizens, especially our youngest and most innocent clients. I will certainly work hard to provide the necessary tools to support those employed in this department and improve the working conditions so that we can better serve these special citizens. I want only the best qualified, competent, dedicated, and hardworking people I can find to fill each position. I will give anyone and everyone an equal opportunity to prove that they possess these qualities. I would appreciate and encourage anyone that has concerns about the future of this office, should I be elected, to contact me by messaging me on this, my facebook campaign page, on my website dansmithforda , or by phone at (423) 913-4367. I will be more than happy to discuss your concerns and to personally address any other rumors.
