I was having a conversation with three young ladies the other day and I asked them where they were from and they all in turn told me either Brooklyn or somewhere more amazing and safe and when I told them that I was from the Bronx one of them retorted (with a pat on my arm--to soften the blow, I guess) Im so sorry for you, which was something which I would have normally not let slide, but God, in His amazing and infinite grace (and because Hes truly changed me) didnt let me think too much of it at the moment, distracting me to a certain degree and making sure her words didnt offend me--though they would have before. Having said that--I am not ashamed of living in the Bronx, in fact, if you truly read the story of Jesus--I think He would have chosen to live here with me--and in the worst and most dangerous places in the city because he was never prone to search for safety as many often do--not knowing that maybe that in that comfort is exactly how the enemy wants you. (Though He would have been all over the place anyway) Now, Im not generalizing this. Im not saying If you live in DUMBO or Soho or Noho youre instantly in Jesus black list lol. What I am saying is this: unless youre being the light where you are--youre the one in danger. Gods word is explicit about these things. Wherever you are, wherever you live--be Jesus there. Rich Wilkerson Senior said it best People are always running away from the hood to go to the woods--but youre never safer than where God places you! God can place you in the middle of a war and youre safe! Ha! To think about those words, gives me life. God has placed me in the Bronx. Hes placed you somewhere else, somewhere safer? Im glad for you, I really am. But what are you doing about it? According to the bible theres a danger in not helping the poor, not clothing the widow and in denying Christ here on earth (even just with our actions) thats what we should worry about! Not where we live, but, are we making a difference all over this city! Dont feel bad for me. Im good. :) Be encouraged, be the light and the voice in the middle of the desert. P. S. And Im doing this for all my Bronx people. BX!! ALL DAY!!!! And if youre proud to be where youre from, let it be known!
