I was in Sahad Stores in Abuja last week. As usual, my eyes were roaming, looking for an event to record and tell. I was looking for something hilarious, but I saw something troubling: a middled aged mother with two teenage girls, maybe 13 and 15. The girls were wearing the skimpiest dresses I have ever seen, well, outside my TV. OK, maybe you see nothing troubling here, but I am an old-fashioned middle aged man already. And the sight of these two girls was morbidly offensive. How can a mother not know that teenage girls are amongst the most vulnerable group of women anywhere in the world, and should be protected, even from themselves? How can a mother sanction the wearing of beach wear in a shopping mall? We are becoming extremely permissive, and are making our children victims. When these girls dress indecently in future, this mother has no moral right to address the matter. Well, if you have girls in your house, especially underage girls, dispel the lie that they are too young to dress properly, too well-groomed to learn etiquette, too innocent to learn decency, too protected to sway from The Way, to young to develop a sense of occasion. Children are Gods heritage. The little things we do, or fail to do now may be difference between having well-adjusted children that are a blessing to their generation, or maladjusted children that are a nightmare to their parents and community. A happy Sunday to you.
