I was just listening to a former senator who is a native of Nevis - TopicsExpress

I was just listening to a former senator who is a native of Nevis talking on the radio. He was talking about the days when we use to have the Gramboko school in Sub Base that the children of our family of the Eastern Caribbean attended. Listening to him , I realize how we were/are so prejudice against our own family that we actually had schools like our rulers that segregated the family. I also listen , & it made my blood boil as he used the term ALIEN to describe my people. I know what that term means , but being where I am with my thoughts , I see it to be an unfit term to describe my people. Most people who uses that term, & others that some would say , nothing is wrong with it , use those terms in a derogatory way . For instance , the word Santo , which means saint , & is the first part of the name of Capitol city of the Dominican Republic is used in a derogatory way to describe the people of that country. So , when most people say alien to my people , they are not saying to them you are a person born or belonging to another country who has not acquired citizenship. They are actually trying to belittle , or embarrass them. I feel this is ugly , & we need to stop it. Regardless to there being rotten apples on every tree planted anywhere , we are one family.
