I was making myself a little snack just now, to appease my hunger - TopicsExpress

I was making myself a little snack just now, to appease my hunger before dinner. I thought, Texas toast was a fine evening appetizer. Well, apparently I forgot my serious flaw in the toast department. Now, I can roast a turkey to golden perfection, make the creamiest mashed potatoes the world has ever seen. I make scrambled eggs that can grace the pages of food magazines all light and fluffy the perfect shade of pale yellow. However, when it comes to toast, I fail. I fail at it so miserably. Of course I would like to blame our dinosaur of a toaster oven, that now cuts off the bottom line of all numbers on the temperature gage. But truth be told, when it comes to toast, whether in a pop up toaster or The Monster, I get two things, Just warmed or Burn victim. Today, I got burn victim. I had visions of my grandmother scraping the burned edges off over the garbage can, trying to convince us it was still good. Yet, nothing gets the taste of burned bread out of your mouth, not even a large glass of milk. I felt defeated. I just wanted a snack! Now, I am sure you are wondering if I threw my three extremely dark pieces of toast away. No way, I just pulled out a jar of sauce and dipped those suckers, till the taste of burnt bread was only subtle and not overbearing. I waste nothing. Growing up poor will do that. And as my Granny always said, Its still good! What is the one food item you never seem to get right?
