I was not aware of this until this morning. Certainly a business lesson in here. Ive seen it. Ive experienced this, in fact, not only early on in my present walk of life but in my previous adventures, too. Bottom line: No business model is immortal... and good ideas dont always come from the top. In fact, those outside the executive offices are often the ones with the fresh ideas, as they have a different perspective. In fact, this story serves as a pretty good prequel. It shows what the mindset was with each company at the time. Blockbuster? They were complacent. Arrogant. Too full of their own stuff to see that their business model was quickly becoming dated. Netflix? They were hungry. Confident. Approaching Blockbuster about a partnership at the point in time outlined in the story took big brass balls. It shows they got to where they did now not just because they had an idea but because they were bold enough to aim for the moon. Now different might the world of entertainment content be right this hot second if this had gone the other way? This inspired me a bit today, on a day and week where I rather needed that, too. Im sharing it here so that others might take the same from it. cnet/news/blockbuster-laughed-at-netflix-partnership-offer/
