I was on the subway yesterday with my dog Poncho and he created a change reaction. An elderly woman was asking for money saying she wanted to buy food. As she asked, she held out an empty Tim Hortons cup and people would either look down or look right through her as if she wasnt there. She bypassed me for some reason, probably because my simian forehead, which makes me look angry. I called her over and dropped what I had into the cup. She looked down at Poncho and said, ohhhh I love dogs, and knelt down to pet him. Poncho loves affection and showed his gratitude by licking her face. It made her laugh with joy. I looked up from the two of them enjoying their moment and saw that everyones expressions had changed. Poncho had made them realize that she was an actual person, a fellow human being. She said thank you and proceeded to walk through the subway car, but this time to a much more open and compassionate group. People gave her change from their purses and pockets and gave her fruit and sandwiches from their bags. Society could learn a lesson from Poncho. Expressing love unconditionally. And by the way, you dont need to lick someones face to start a change reaction.
