I was rear ended yesterday in my Audi on SR 70. Pulled over and - TopicsExpress

I was rear ended yesterday in my Audi on SR 70. Pulled over and the driver that rear ended me pulled over in front of me. I got out and as I was looking at the minor damage to my rear bumper, the guy that hit me took off. He had no idea who he was dealing with though. After he had a huge head start and there were better than 10 cars between us, the chase began. I called 911 as I came through traffic with my foot to the floorboard. When he saw me a few cars behind him, coming up fast, he cut through a neighborhood. I continued the chase while talking to 911. He lost me for just a second and as I turned my car around in a driveway I caught a glimpse of he offenders car leaving the same entrance to the development. I continued the chase and caught him entering another development, this time close enough to get his license number. He stopped and shortly there after the police arrived. They had both local and state troopers show up. I guess the 911 operator was afraid here was going to be a confrontation. It was a 20 something year old driving a Honda Civic with plenty of past body damage and a hanging front bumper, probably from the impact with my Audi. The driver then started lying to me that I never chased him through a neighborhood and he never hit me. Fortunately, the white paint on the back bumper of my silver Audi was enough proof to the officers of who was telling the real story. The police was ready to right up the driver for hit and run, a misdemeanor crime. While the officer was writing him up the driver came and apologized to me. I told him to cut the crap, be a man and tell the officer the truth. He finally fessed up and told the officer. I then asked the officer if he could reduce the ticket to careless driving since the driver was now admitting the accident The officer agreed and the hit and run driver left with a much less ticket, thanking me for being kind. I told him, today you messed with the wrong person. Had you just pulled over we would have exchanged insurance information and no police would have been involved. He said, I thought him a lesson....I sure hope I did. Now, to get my car fixed!
