I was researching something called the Broken Window Theory, and its very interesting. You should look it up yourself as well... Basically, it says that if a window breaks in a neighborhood, and it isnt picked up within a certain period of time, it becomes a part of the environment, and therefore theres a higher likeliness that a second window will break. 2 becomes 3, 3 becomes 4, so on and so forth, until people just accept it as the norm... This is a problem, this is how neighborhoods become ghettos, because the people living in that environment have been around it for so long that they accept it as their reality. Ghettos, slums, trailer parks, old ran down neighborhoods have beauty in them, people just need to take responsibility and take care of it themselves. This isnt just for neighborhoods tho... I was at a corporate office a few weeks ago, and I saw a stack of business cards laying on the ground. I didnt pick them up because I wanted to see if they were there when I returned the next day. The next day, they were still there, and I witnessed people walking right past and not doing anything about it. So I walked over and set them neatly on the table. Although this is incredibly small to point out, it makes a huge difference as to how you, your family, your neighborhood, and your company is viewed. To me, this is sad that we cannot do whats right, instead we just focus on the negatives of society instead of doing something positive ourselves. We should choose to rise above and make a positive impact, instead of hoping and wishing that someone else will do it. Something as simply as fixing a window or putting business cards back on the table. Thoughts?
