I was rummaging through some stuff this very early morning and found an old post card that was sent from Lock Haven n 1906. Has a US Scott #300 stamp on it as well as the sought after cancellation! The cancellation was made by one of the first automated cancellation machines and the strike is known as the Doremus Type E Sometimes things arent as they first appear...apparently there was songs and even a vaudeville thing on this. I do believe though, that it has its roots in old politics but am unable to confirm that as of yet. Take every knock as a boost, every stumbling block as a stepping stone... If you look at the very bottom of the card illustration, youll see the name Douglass, 27 N. 10th St., Phila. as in the Douglass Post Card & Machine Company of Philadelphia. That company was involved in a rather interesting copyright infringement case with the courts back in the day, the case for which is still cited today. For those not interested in the legalese of all the points involved, heres a summary: [PLEASE see the document in the images attached to this post]
